The role

With one of the most advanced natural capital teams nationally, Niche are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Senior or Principal level Ecologist with experience in biodiversity offsetting to deliver diverse and interesting projects and mentor junior and mid-level consultants. In this role, you will lead projects across a diverse range of natural capital frameworks, from biodiversity offsetting, nature based land use strategies, biodiversity and carbon projects. You will identify environmental market opportunities, support portfolio targeting for natural capital outcomes and value generation for Niche’s corporate, government and landholder clients. Efficient and effective project management, compliance, technical quality, and delivery are key focus areas of this position.
Key responsibilities will include:

  • Lead and deliver offset strategies under the NSW Biodiversity Offsets Scheme.
  • Lead and deliver natural capital assessments and advisory projects (e.g. Accounting for Nature, Commonwealth Nature Repair Market, TNFD).
  • Support clients to understand, measure, and enhance their natural capital impacts and dependencies.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders across a range of sectors, including government, agriculture, infrastructure, and resources.
  • Prepare high-quality reports, proposals, and presentations.

About you

With a demonstrated track record of success in a consulting environment, you will have a thorough knowledge of the identification, ecology, and habitat requirements of flora and fauna across Australia.

You will possess:
  • Strong knowledge and experience in biodiversity offsetting, natural capital, ecosystem services, biodiversity, or environmental accounting.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications; in ecology, biology, environmental science, environmental management, or similar.
  • At least 7 years’ experience in a similar consulting role.
  • Strong project management experience.
  • Extensive experience undertaking ecological survey, and flora and/or fauna identification in NSW
  • BAM accreditation otherwise demonstrated detailed knowledge of the BAM.
  • Experience in preparing ecological reports such as impact assessments.
  • Offsetting skills such as experience with TFD calculations, offset strategies, BSSAR’s, monitoring reports and management plans, preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and full Australian working rights
